Super Cup Round 2
The second round of the Lanarkshire Netball Super Cup took place on Thursday 7th December at Larkhall Sports Centre. After the exciting opening round everyone was looking forward to the next stage in the competition
This fixture saw the Singapore Sharks make their debut against the Australian Allstars. Once again the Allstars started the match at a fast pace but the Sharks held their own and led the 1st quarter, 9 goals to 7. The 2nd quarter yielded little in the way of goals, a scrappy 15 minutes by both teams, with Allstars closing the gap by just one and reducing this to give an even score of 25 all at the end of the 3rd. It was all to play for in the last quarter with shooting and play improving by both teams. A determined effort by the Allstars defence and goal shooters saw them pull just ahead with the match ending 34-32.
The second match of the night saw the New Zealand Warriers -v- Fiji Flames. Again a fast paced 1st quarter with the Warriers pulling ahead 17-10. Flames pulled back 3 goals in the second quarter and a change of defence by them in the 3rd saw the goal difference narrow to one in favour of the Warriers. However with their shooting on form in the last quarter, Warriers finished 44-41 over the Flames.
A successful second night in the Super Cup was enjoyed by all participants, and thanks go to all involved including Event Organisers, Team Coaches, Umpires and the Barbados Blades for scoring and time keeping. The next games will be held in Larkhall Sports Centre on January 18th at 7.15pm.
