LANARKSHIRE NETBALL INTRODUCES “THE SUPER CUP”

Dear LNA Member,

Welcome to the first issue of Lanarkshire Netball Association’s Newsletter!

LANARKSHIRE NETBALL INTRODUCES “THE SUPER CUP”

Thursday 9th November saw the opening matches of Lanarkshire Netball Associations latest initiative: The Super Cup. Currently providing leagues for Adult, U17, U15 and U13 levels, this new venture brings not only our elite players together but allows these age groups to play and compete against one another. With games planned for the next 4 months, the Super Cup will end with a play off day next April, with the Scottish National Squad in attendance.

The Super Cup consists of 5 teams: Australian All Stars, New Zealand Warriers, Barbados Blades, Fiji Flames and Singapore Sharks – all taking reference from some of the influential netball areas around the world. The opening 2 matches were played at Larkhall Sports Centre and allowed the competition to see what they were up against!

The opener with Australian All Stars –v- New Zealand Warriers had the anticipated fast and furious paced 1st quarter we expected before the players settled down. Warriers led from the beginning but stretched ahead in the 3rd quarter to a 13 goal lead. All Stars tried to claw their way back in the final quarter but could only reduce the deficit by 4 goals, with the final score ending 44-35 to the Warriers.

The second game saw the Barbados Blades –v- Fiji Flames. The 1st quarter had end to end goal scoring with the Flames narrowly leading by 3 goals. The 2nd quarter saw both teams giving away penalties and missing scoring opportunities. But by the 3rd quarter both teams were back on track with only 2 goals of a difference with the last 15 minutes to go. Flames hung onto their narrow lead to win 40-36. A tight game from start to finish.

The opening night was a great success with all teams taking part thoroughly enjoying themselves. A big thank you goes to all involved including Event Organisers, Team Coaches, Umpires and the Singapore Sharks for scoring and time keeping. The next games will be held in Larkhall Sports Centre on Thursday 7th December at 7.15pm.
