Super Cup Round 2
The second round of the 2007 Super Cup took place on 1st November in Larkhall Sports Centre. This was the first game for our invitational team, the U21 Scotland squad.
The first match saw Scottish U21 -v- Singapore Sharks
It was a tentative start for our Sharks as they lost the 1st quarter 3 goals to 13. Undeterred they started off the 2nd quarter with a goal for goal score line - but not even a change to the starting 7 could stop the U21 forging ahead to finish 31 –v- 9 at half time. A few line up changes for Sharks saw the 3rd quarter as their best, scoring 7 goals to finish behind 47 –v- 16. Our Sharks were put to the test against the U21 team and the game finished U21 winning 68 –v- 20. Definitely an eye opener for the other 4 teams still to play the newcomers.
The second match of the night saw New Zealand Warriers -v- Fiji Flames
Unlike the first game the opening quarter saw both teams on an even keel finishing 1 goal apart, 9-v- 10. With both teams appearing to be equally matched the second quarter was a similar paced one to the first ending 18 –v- 22. The 3rd quarter however, saw Flames pull ahead and break several of Warriers centres in a row to finish 29 -v- 36. With a gap capable of being closed Warriers fought closely in the last quarter and pulled back to a 1 goal difference. With a quickened pace and a tension close to that of the 2006 final, Flames pulled ahead at the last minute to win 46 goals to 42.
The 3rd round will be held on 29th November.
